As many Calgarians know, the Music Mile is home to a stellar showcase of musicians and acts, namely a great variety of homegrown talent. On that note, the fall line-up in Off Cut Bar is bringing a colourful range of characters to the stage that will cover everything from classic Blues and Folk, to Rockabilly Swing. This week, one of our Off Cut regulars is back for another night of his signature stripped down Blues on Thursday night. Ladies and Gents, meet El.
I’ve been making music for about 9 years now.
I’d sum it up like this: Chris Isaak being kidnapped by R.L. Burnside on Black Sabbath’s tour
I go through phases. Right now I’m really into Mrs. Glass out of Austin, Texas and Merle Haggard. I’ve also been listening to a lot of stuff by a guy out of NOLA named Anders Osborne. I’m really into the album ‘Time Out of Mind’ by Bob Dylan right now too. My Dad used to play it non-stop while I was growing up.
Yes! it was a battle of the bands. We played ‘Ace of Spades’ by Motörhead. We ended up getting second place and we won a mic. I still have that mic.
I actually can’t remember. I do remember playing there and being excited to come back though! I think we’ve probably played in Off Cut Bar a half a dozen times since last fall. Always a great time.
That would be the crowd. It’s always an awesome group of folks who are down to boogie it up. I like the attention to detail in the decor and the overall vibe. Noble has an amazing menu as well. The food is on point. Best burger I’ve had in a minute.
Tea, but I’ve been getting into orange pop lately. Jeff, my compadre on the drums, likes Basil Hayden’s 8 year, served neat.
